Cdiffense trial to evaluate vaccine against a leading cause of life-threatening, healthcare-associated infections worldwide. Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccines division of Sanofi (EURONEXT: SAN and NYSE: SNY), announced today the initiation of its Phase III clinical program called Cdiffense to evaluate the safety, immunogenicity and efficacy of an investigational vaccine for the prevention of primary symptomatic Clostridium difficile infection (CDI). Clostridium difficile (C. diff) is a potentially life-threatening, spore-forming bacterium that causes intestinal disease....
“Current drug development processes take anywhere from 10-15 years and cost somewhere in the region of $1.2 billion.” Neuromuscular junction studies are mainly concerned with understanding the connection between the nervous system and the muscular system, specifically with the synapses that transmits information across and back. By modelling this interaction in the lab, scientists hope to investigate subtle changes in muscle functional outputs in response to treatment with novel modulatory and inhibitory compounds. Such a system may prove invaluable in furthering research efforts aimed at the development of effective treatments and reducing the overall cost of clinical trials...
Over 300 guests, including experts in health, beauty and wellness technology, are expected to attend events during MediCity Innovators’ Week 18-22 November 2013, with the official opening taking place on Thursday 21 November 2013. Boots UK will be recognised by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) for its pioneering work, headed-up by Dr Stewart Adams, which led to the discovery of ibuprofen in the 1980s and which is now used by millions worldwide for pain relief. The conferring of the RSC Chemical Landmark plaques by Boots UK and BioCity symbolises the foundations of innovation that underpin both businesses...
The second generation of PIPETBOY acu is equipped with the latest technology providing a significant increase in pipetting speed and a sizeable weight reduction making using the instrument over extended periods of time even more comfortable. These two new developments help improve your productivity and deliver an enhanced ergonomic pipetting experience. Liquid handling in the millilitre range using serological pipettes is a daily task for many labs. Unlike rubber bulb fillers, the use of seriological pipettors improves the efficiency and precision of your liquid handling...

A recent webinar showcasing new software features for the Mastersizer 3000 proved an opportunity for Malvern Instruments’ customers to reflect on how, two years on from its launch, this groundbreaking instrument is delivering valuable benefits. Customers cite its small footprint, truly intuitive and intelligent software interface, as well as the ease of transferring from an existing system to the new instrument, as the most popular features. The new software further enhances these elements of performance and was demonstrated during the webinar...
Carbendazim is a fungicide and a known endocrine with potentially harmful effects on human health. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has limited the concentration of carbendazim in imports to 10 ppb. Using the EVOQ, Bruker has developed a quantitative Multiple Reaction Monitoring (MRM) method for carbendazim analysis in orange juice and wine matrices. The EVOQ’s sensitivity was demonstrated as detections of 0.005 ppb were made, far below the FDA limit. The application note is available to download...
The Magritek Spinsolve™ NMR Spectrometer; a cryogen-free benchtop NMR system, has been designed to provide an upgradable platform for versatile NMR spectroscopy applications. The latest upgrade enables users to perform both fluorine and proton measurements on the same sample without the need for complicated retuning of the probe as may be required in alternative commercial systems...
