Cepheid’s GeneXpert^® Infinity System lies at the heart of an innovative, award-winning sexual health screening service in Soho, London. Dean Street Express – run by the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust – was recently declared the winner of the prestigious Health Service Journal ‘Value in Healthcare Award.

'Value and Improvement in the use of Diagnostics’ in recognition of its user-friendly, walk-in sexual health check-up service for symptom-free patients. This fast, effective and modern facility takes advantage of the rapid, sensitive near-patient testing capabilities of Cepheid’s GeneXpert Infinity System to provide results within two to six hours.

With the main Dean Street Clinic already using a GeneXpert XVI, the GeneXpert Infinity System was the logical choice for a fast, efficient health screening service – which has resulted in successfully reducing the average time from testing to treatment from 10 to just two days. Dean Street Express simply transfers its patient samples directly to the GeneXpert System in the neighbouring laboratory for analysis. This straightforward procedure allows Dean Street Express to cost­effectively process large numbers of samples with turnaround times of just a few hours, making a huge difference to its patients.
