Attendees at the Society for Biomolecular Sciences' (SBS) 16th Annual Conference & Exhibition were greeted by Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon at the Phoenix Convention Center this morning. The Conference & Exhibition, Advancing the Science of Drug Discovery, will run April 11 - 15.

"We are grateful to have you in our city," said Mayor Gordon. ""Downtown Phoenix is the perfect setting for this year's SBS Conference. Our nearby Phoenix Biomedical Campus is an intersection of academic health, biomedical education, research and clinical care that provides the platform to leverage new discoveries to improve patient care--an ideal backdrop to welcome industry leaders of biomolecular sciences."

The event is expected to draw more than 2,000 scientists, researchers and industry leaders from around the world. The conference will feature keynote addresses from acclaimed scientists, short courses, and workshops emphasizing the growing integration of the biomolecular sciences and their influence on drug research and development. SBS will highlight the most significant and exciting recent advances in the cutting-edge science that underpins the discovery and development of new medicines.

"Phoenix really is an ideal destination for SBS' 16th Annual Conference & Exhibition," said SBS Executive Director, Dr. Al Kolb. "In addition to a thriving life science sector, the outstanding climate and the new convention center, the city of Phoenix's initial and continued support of our efforts has been instrumental in helping to ensure that SBS 2010 will be a big success."

Headquartered in Danbury, CT, the Society for Biomolecular Sciences (SBS) is the only international non-profit scientific society dedicated to drug discovery and its related disciplines. SBS was founded in 1994 to provide a forum for global education and information exchange among professionals in the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotech, and agrochemical industries. SBS members represent many of the largest and most influential research institutes, universities and pharmaceutical companies in the world, including the National Cancer Institute, University of California, Berkeley, Harvard University, government agencies and organizations, and most major companies involved in drug discovery.
