Watson-Marlow Supports Excellence in Biopharm Sector with Donation of Equipment to New Biotech Training Facility

Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group (WMFTG) has demonstrated its support of the opening of a new, world-class Biotech Training Facility (BTF) in Leiden, Holland with the donation of its equipment.

Biotech FacilityWatson-Marlow hopes that the contribution of its equipment – which includes two of its new 530 series pumps and two 620 series pumps, plus a consignment of Pumpsil and PureWeld tubing - will support the aims and objectives of this impressive training facility.

As a world-leader in complete fluid path solutions for the biopharmaceutical sector, WMFTG has also provided world-class technology from elsewhere in its group: A Flexicon PF6 tabletop aseptic liquid filler will provide trainees at BTF with both accuracy (±0.5%) and repeatability when demonstrating the accuracy and repeatability of liquid filling pumps to trainees. The peristaltic filling principle delivers the widely recognised benefits of precise filling, zero cross contamination and ease of cleaning.  Trainees will also benefit from the company’s Accusil TM platinum-cured tubing – which is designed specifically for dispensing applications.

As part of its on-going commitment to education, training and skills development across the sector, WMFTG has also offered training and support to the BTF for those interested in learning more about peristaltic fluid solutions.

Rudi Dominicus Manager, Training and Development at the Biotech Training Facility commented:

“It is great news that Watson-Marlow, a major player in the pharmaceutical market, supports Biotech Training Facility in Leiden with the donation of five peristaltic pumps.

As Biotech Training Facility we are extremely pleased to be allowed to use these reliable pumps for our practical training courses and to benefit from Watson-Marlow’s many years of experience in single-use fluid paths.”

State of the art training facility

The new Biotech Training Facility (BTF) is a state-of-the-art training centre where trainees can learn how to produce (bio) pharmaceuticals, under GMP and biosafety conditions, in a realistic environment. The BTF has been funded with support from the European Regional Development Fund of the European Commission.

This world-class training facility can also be used as a pilot plant for testing equipment and processes. Located in Leiden, Holland, and occupying an impressive 2000M2 space at the Leiden Bio Science Park, the BTF is fully equipped with cleanrooms (Class A to D), laboratories and a technical area with easily accessible utilities.

In addition to the donation of equipment, Watson-Marlow is one of the first companies to have worked together with the Biotech Training Facility to develop a custom-made course; a training session is planned for its own biopharm specialist sales engineers.
