Insights and Innovations theatre

Lab Innovations – the UK’s only dedicated showcase for laboratory, analytical and biotech equipment – returns to the NEC, Birmingham, for its sixth consecutive year on the 1st and 2nd of November 2017.

With the largest gathering of laboratory suppliers in the UK, this free-to-attend show has lots on offer for professionals across a wide range of sectors, from pharmaceuticals to food and drink. As well as browsing the latest products from over 150 exhibitors, visitors have the opportunity to take advantage of over 35 hours of seminars and presentations tackling some of the current and future challenges facing scientists. The Insights and Innovations theatre is poised to bring together speakers from diverse scientific sectors covering a whole range of topics, from promoting female talent in STEM to the influence of automation in the modern lab.

This year, the Insights and Innovations theatre will place a spotlight on sustainability and environmental responsibility, with seminars from Green Light Laboratories and Innovation DB discussing the true cost of lab equipment, deriving value from waste and transitioning from recycling to a circular economy. Visitors can look forward to a presentation by Amazon EU’s head of laboratory supplies, and enjoy discussions surrounding current innovations in laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and approaches to integrating chromatography and mass spectrometry. In addition, the theatre programme promises to engage with issues of supporting and developing young scientists, the Science Council’s Technician Commitment and gaining UKAS accreditation. The panel discussion on Wednesday afternoon –  Automation vs training is also sure to raise some interesting questions; increasingly automated laboratories may well be the future of high output research, but what is the cost of this to the training and availability of new scientists?

With opportunities for discussion and networking, as well as Q&A sessions, visitors can take full advantage of the wealth of experience and expertise on offer; it’s a packed schedule that’s not to be missed.
