Asynt won this year’s Lions’ Lair competition, which took place at Lab Innovations on Wednesday 5 November.

lions lairThe company fought off competition from three other exhibitors all pitching their most innovative products to an expert panel in order to be voted best in show.

The panel of Lions’ (judges) included Phillip Broadwith, Business Editor of Chemistry World, Kasia Wincoirek, Laboratory Manager at DNA Electronics, Phil Prime, Managing Editor at Laboratory News and Yahya Akudi, QC Lab Manager at Nuarfarm Ltd.

Asynt won with its pioneering product, PressureSyn, which is a high pressure reactor designed to work on any magnetic hotplate stirrer. The inbuilt safety features comprise of a double pressure relief system, including bursting disk and pressure relief valve. The 125 ml reactors are certificated and rated to a maximum pressure of 100bar and temperature of 200C. The innovative design allows for a higher level of safety than is often associated with pressure vessels used in laboratories.

On winning the Lions’ Lair accolade, Martyn Fordham, Managing Director at Asynt commented: “It is always an honour to be recognised by your peers. We didn’t achieve this alone, our innovation was created in conjunction with the University of Nottingham, leading to a winning combination. Our PressureSyn is a simple product that helps ensure a safe environment for those working within chemistry research labs. We are certainly thrilled to have won. ”

The three other companies who took part in the competition included Cleaver Scientific, Spex Certiprep and Metrohm.

The Lions’ Lair formed part of the highly anticipated showfloor entertainment, which took place at this year’s Lab Innovations. The show once again boasted an expanded show floor, with major names such as Robin Ince and Andrea Sella headlining the conference programme.

The next Lab Innovations will be taking place at Birmingham’s NEC on 4 & 5 November 2015.
