The Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS) announced the formation of its Americas Regional Council.

slasMade up of seven life science research and development professionals, representing both technology users and providers, this Council is chartered to provide leadership and guidance to the Society’s activities and operations in the Americas.

The members of the inaugural SLAS Americas Regional Council include:

  •  Tyler Aldredge, Quintiles Transnational

  •  John Thomas Bradshaw, Artel

  •  Hansjoerg Haas, Thermo Fisher Scientific

  •  Catherine Klapperich, Boston University

  •  Craig Schulz, Amgen

  •  Sara Thrall, GlaxoSmithKline

  •  Aaron Wheeler, University of Toronto

“Since our inception, SLAS has aspired to provide information, resources and connections based primarily on the needs of the professionals and industries we serve,” said Daniel G. Sipes, SLAS President. “We are grateful that the members of this Americas Council have positively embraced this goal, and agreed to represent SLAS members and stakeholders in the Americas. We hope this Council ensures that our Society remains as vital and relevant as it is today, while evolving with the ever-changing landscape of laboratory science and technology.”

In concert with councils from Europe and Asia, SLAS now has active regional leadership councils on three continents. Each of these councils is charged with representing the needs of local members and professionals with a vested interest in the society. Maintaining local volunteer leadership, along with a global Board of Directors, ensures SLAS remains attuned to local markets, cultures and member needs so that the society can successfully deliver on its mission regardless of where a member resides or works.

Members of the SLAS Regional Councils are appointed to serve between one- and three-year terms. This schedule provides for continuity, while also ensuring a continuous influx of new professionals. For more information on SLAS leadership and committees, visit http://www.slas.org/about/committees/.

The Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS) is an international community of more than 15,000 individual scientists, engineers, researchers, technologists and others from academic, government and commercial laboratories. The SLAS mission is to be the preeminent global organization providing forums for education and information exchange and to encourage the study of, and improve the practice of laboratory science and technology.
