Two scientists from Thermo Fisher Scientific, as well as a collaborator from Proteome Sciences plc, have been recognized for their contribution to develop and commercialize isobaric labeling for quantitative proteomics experiments.

thermo logoThe award, the annual Science and Technology Award from the Human Proteome Organization, recognized the scientists’ contribution to the development of Tandem Mass Tag (TMT) isobaric labeling, which was invented by Proteome Sciences and is licensed solely by Thermo Fisher Scientific.

The awardees include:

  • John Rogers, senior research and development manager for Pierce Protein Biology products at Thermo Fisher Scientific. He leads the development of reagents for quantitative proteomic analysis, including TMT chemicals and enrichment reagents.
  • Rosa Viner, program manager for Proteomics at Thermo Fisher Scientific. She conducted initial evaluation of TMT and continues to develop and improve instrumental and data analysis tools for this workflow.
  • Andrew Thompson is head of chemical proteomics at Proteome Science plc. He is one of the original inventors of isobaric mass tags for proteomics, and leads the development of new TMT reagents.

The fourth winner, Subhasish Purkayastha of AB SCIEX, was recognized for developing ICAT and iTRAQ technologies for protein labeling and analysis.
