LI-COR is now accepting applications for its Science Undergraduate Research Grant (SURG) program. This program is designed for faculty researchers and their students to gain access to cutting edge life science technology and incorporate it into the classroom

LI-COR Biosciences is awarding a limited number of matching fund grants (value up to $18,400) to eligible academic institutions within the United States and Puerto Rico to be used toward the purchase of a LI-COR Odyssey^® Fc Imaging System, including the instrument, software, and reagents. Also included with the system are Western blot and DNA gel imaging sample curriculum, installation, and training.

"Our SURG program allows institutions to offer its students hands-on access to cutting edge technology that is currently being used in top research laboratories," says Alisa Murray, LI-COR national sales manager. "Additionally, instructors are able to better meet increasing tenure and research requirements by combining teaching with research."

LI-COR SURG grants are a 40% match from LI-COR with the institution providing 60%. The Odyssey Fc allows students to easily perform Western blots and DNA gel documentation without a darkroom or hazardous materials. The grant application requires that the applicant include a course proposal outlining the use of the SURG Package in the classroom.
