The first Pharma User Club meeting organized by Granutools was successfully held on January 26th, 2022.

Five invited speakers, from industry and academia, presented the results of their work. The speakers were: Pauline Janssen, Product Application Specialist (DFE Pharma, Germany); Michela Beretta, Scientist (Research Center Pharmaceutical Engineering, RCPE, Austria); Bram Bekaert, Post-doctorate Researcher (Gent University and Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Pharmaceutical Engineering & Manufacturing, CESPE, Belgium); Rohit Kumar, Senior Process Development Engineer (Alkermes Inc., US); and Delphine Ach-Hubert, Formulation scientist (Medelpharm, France).

More than 200 attendees joined this virtual meeting, which was the perfect occasion to hear renowned speakers, join a large and diverse community, and network.

The talks covered a wide range of subjects and aspects of the pharmaceutical industry and academy: from lactose excipients to APIs, from flowability to electrostatics, from feedstock to production lines, from process simulation to model calibration. A series of case studies were discussed in which Granutools instruments were actively engaged to solve powder handling issues and support research advancements.

The success of this Pharma User Club is the result of the hard work of Granutools and its collaborators to understand the processability of formulations, but also the physical properties of the chemicals involved in industrial processes (e.g., continuous manufacturing). Flowability, cohesion, angle of repose, Hausner ratio, packing dynamics, and chargeability are Granutools expertise topics to understand and solve questions related to pharma powders.
