The Scientific Laboratory Show and Conference returns once again to the East Midlands Conference Centre at the University of Nottingham on Wednesday 23rd May.

Organised by Scientific Laboratory Supplies (SLS)  the UK's largest independent supplier of chemicals, laboratory equipment and consumables this free to attend event is set to build on past success, delivering an insight into the future of British science and technology. Science professionals at all levels – from laboratory technicians to senior lab managers – will enjoy networking with their peers, listening to engaging speakers and seeing the latest laboratory innovations at first hand on the exhibitors’ stands.

A learning environment

20180323_1SLS is delighted to once again be working with the Science Council to promote a variety of options to help enhance scientific knowledge and further career development. There is something for everyone, from talks focusing on the future of British science, research and technology – some of which count towards CPD –  to stimulating lectures, workshops, seminars and masterclasses, plus demonstrations from sponsors Eppendorf and Corning Life Sciences.

This year’s keynote speakers, Dallas Campbell of the BBC’s Bang Goes the Theory fame and Professor Sir Bill Wakeham, are sure to draw a big audience. Dallas is passionate about understanding our relationship with science, technology and engineering – past, present and future – while Professor Wakeham has a broad background spanning the fields of chemistry, engineering and physics, giving him unique insights into putting scientific theory into practice in industrial settings.

For those seeking career progression, the Science Council’s Professional Development Zone offers the ideal opportunity to engage with bodies such as the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Royal Society of Biology, the Biochemical Society, the Institute of Physics, the Institute of Science and Technology, and the Institute of Biomedical Science. These highly regarded organisations will be ready to help visitors with anything from continuous professional development to updating a CV.

Up close and personal

The exhibition caters for visitors with diverse scientific interests from both academia and industry, providing the perfect environment to discover a whole host of products. Over 60 exhibitors will be in attendance – with a number choosing to launch new products at the event – providing ample opportunities to discuss the products and their benefits, request site visits and view demonstrations.

Event sponsor Eppendorf will be showcasing the Cryocube® F740hi freezer – offering secure storage and optimised energy use – and the epMotion 96® semi-automated electronic pipette for fast and precise parallel processing of 96-channel microplates. Visitors to the stand will also be able to enter a quiz to win an Amazon Echo Show. Another main sponsor, Corning Life Sciences, will be promoting its new cell counter, as well as its PETG conical flasks. In addition, the company will be giving visitors the chance to win vouchers up to the value of £500 to redeem on future orders.

The fun side of science

A series of light-hearted activities will be taking place alongside the exhibition and conference, keeping everyone entertained while they learn about the latest scientific products and technologies. All attendees will be entered into a prize draw to win £250 in Amazon vouchers, and a mini golf competition taking place across the exhibition hall will give visitors a chance to win additional vouchers worth a further £250. A free hot lunch and refreshments are included, and Lick Me I’m Delicious will be on hand with its incredible liquid nitrogen ice cream.
