Water for Sanitisation

publication date: Feb 9, 2017

The continuing threat of hospital acquired infection due to resistant pathogens is putting hospital engineers under increasing pressure.

BiopureGuidelines and international standards such as EN15883, HTM2030/2031, NHS Model Engineering Specification C32 and MHRA/HIS require that water used for Sterile Services’ Units and for applications like endoscope reprocessing has to be of the highest possible bacterial and endotoxin quality. With more than sixty years of experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, Veolia Water Technologies’ engineers know that the key to maintaining microbiological purity is regular sanitisation, not only of the water purification system but also the distribution system, to ensure that biofilm formation is controlled. Veolia’s market leading BiopureTM system is equipped with a state-of-the art self-sanitisation programme with provision for validation records and an automatic reminder for the operator.

Whilst chemical sanitisation has many advantages, Authorising Engineers (Decontamination) are increasingly adopting hot water sanitisation for endoscope reprocessing as a safer, more effective and environmentally friendly alternative to chemicals. Veolia’s ThermapureTM series is designed to meet the same water quality specification as Biopure, although constructed in 316L stainless steel to hygienic standards and is fully heat sanitisable. It includes an integral tank with a heating element programmed to carry out and validate heat sanitisation of the system.

Both Biopure and Thermapure ranges have models from 120 to 600 l/h so, whether you prefer your sanitisation hot or cold, there’s a model to meet your need, be it for a small dental surgery, a primary care unit or a suite of multiple washers fed via a central ring main.
