Thermo Fisher Launches First ACT™ Platinum-Certified LC System with Torque-Controlled Fittings
Thermo Fisher Scientific Launches Enhanced Vanquish LC Systems with Torque-Controlled Fittings and First-Ever Platinum ACT™ Sustainability Ecolabel
Thermo Fisher Scientific announces significant enhancements to its Vanquish™ HPLC and UHPLC systems, designed to deliver smarter usability, greater sustainability and improved lab productivity with liquid chromatography (LC) separations. The upgraded systems are the only systems to feature torque-controlled Thermo Scientific™ Viper™ TQ UHPLC fittings and are the first LC systems to achieve a Platinum ACT™ Ecolabel 2.0 certification for environmental impact analysis.
As laboratories strive to improve throughput and minimize rework, fluidic leaks remain one of the most common and costly sources of error. The Viper TQ UHPLC fittings with tool-free, torque-controlled technology are the first to be offered as standard by an LC instrument vendor. This feature provides confidence through an audible click when secure connections are made, helping users of all experience levels avoid overtightening or under tightening – preventing leaks, downtime and the need to reanalyze samples.
“Using the new fluidic connections with Viper TQ UHPLC Fitting design on our Vanquish LC systems has been a great experience,” said Lylia Drici, senior scientist at Ferring Pharmaceuticals. “The robust and tight connections provide a high level of reliability, and the capillaries are easier to use compared to other solutions. The tactile feedback ensures that the fittings are properly secured, regardless of the columns used.
I also valued the new active pre-heater design with its replaceable outlet capillaries, which improves ecological efficiency while providing performance and consistency in my analyses.” The addition of the improved, smaller eluent filters was another great benefit Lylia highlighted, enabling easier insertion into bottles and utilization of the last drops of solvent making the overall system even more user-friendly.
With the new Vanquish Sample Hub module, the instrument can hold up to 23 sample racks instead of four, enabling extended user free automated instrument operation. Smart features like vial-bottom detection assist the system to maximize utilization of limited sample volumes, and the touchscreen guides users through setup, operation and routine maintenance. Together, these upgrades make workflows faster and let the instrument process more samples in less time, while giving a clear view of its environmental impact to support sustainability and responsible use of resources.
Key Customers and Applications
- Designed for use across pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, food & beverage, environmental and academic laboratories.
- Ideal for research, analytical development, QC environments and labs with variable staffing or training levels. Supports regulated and routine applications requiring consistent data quality, simplified workflows and customers who demand more sustainable workflows in their lab
Benefits
- Eliminate leakage through LC connections, one of the most frequent drivers of sample retesting. The Thermo Scientific™ Viper™ TQ LC fittings provide an audible click every time for 300+ tool-free connects compared to other torque-controlled fittings rated for just 100+. Reducing downtime and maintenance needs while delivering long-term performance, reliability, and a lower total cost of ownership.
- Full sustainable workflow from injection to detection,Vanquish LC systems are the first to receive Platinum ACT™ Ecolabel 2.0 Certification by My Green Lab, with 100% renewable energy manufacturing, 20% recycled material content and 70% recyclable packaging. ACT-labeled consumables including LC columns and sample handling solutions such as vials and closures are available to further accelerate environmental sustainability goals.
- Reduce training time and error potential, while enhancing usability across lab teams of all experience levels. The intuitive touchscreen user interface guides users step-by-step through correct instrument setup, ensuring reliable and repeatable results. Integrated vial bottom detection technology automatically determines the optimal needle height for a variety of sample vials and plate types. This eliminates guesswork, prevents needle damage and ensures accurate sample aspiration from the very bottom of the container.
