Thermo Fisher Scientific has released a new line of polymeric solid-phase extraction cartridges, Thermo Scientific^™ Dionex^™ Polymeric SolEx^™ Solid Phase Extraction Cartridges for the AutoTrace 280 Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) system, for the extraction of organic contaminants from liquid matrices prior to GC, GC/MS and LC/MS analysis. Analytik Jena AG has obtained a major contract for the supply of 22 instruments of the multi N/C^® series to analyze the water quality in the Chinese province Henan.

The project volume of the contract amounts to a medium-level six-figure range. The instruments are already due to be delivered during the current quarter. "During the tender for this major project we succeeded against numerous large competitors. The quality of our products was convincing", said Torsten Olschewski, General Manager of the business unit Analytical Instrumentation at the Analytik Jena AG. As part of the project "Automatic Monitoring Capacity Building Project of Surface Water Quality" the Chinese province Henan wants to increasingly engage with environmental analysis in the future...

Genevac reports on a protocol that describes a rapid, safe technique for drying oligonucleotide and DNA samples.

DNA and oligonucleotide samples are sensitive and care needs to be exercised during concentration. Research done at the Welcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics (UK) shows that the Genevac EZ-2 evaporator is an ideal tool for concentrating SNP and oligonucleotides in microplates when preparing samples for microarraying and for Sequenon analysis.
