Especially suited to research facilities and laboratories that handle tall vessels—such as fermenters, culture flasks, bio-reactors and other tall labware. At the core of the V85-SMART is Priorclave’s 85 Litre cylindrical chamber. Priorclave remains one of the few autoclave manufacturers globally that retains complete control over its supply chain, fabricating all principal components, including the pressure vessels, in-house at its South East London facility. Their bespoke seam welding system is an integral part of its manufacturing process and quality control for its autoclaves, with the welding system designed to create an exceptionally strong, straight, and smooth seam, which ensures the overall structural integrity and long-term reliability of the cylindrical pressure vessels under regular high-pressure use.
To support complex and repeatable sterilisation programs, the cylindrical chamber is paired with a Tactrol® 3 control system, enabling researchers to quickly and easily tailor cycle parameters even whilst gloved. The intuitive interface and expandable programme memory allow teams to create and store procedure-specific cycles, reducing user-to-user variability and strengthening compliance with laboratory quality systems. For multi-user facilities, this also minimises training requirements and helps ensure consistent performance irrespective of the operator’s skill level.
Research timelines are often tight, and delays in sterilisation can quickly cascade into lost time. The V85-SMART addresses this with features designed to shorten turnaround while maintaining sterility assurance—such as optional vacuum assistance, forced-air cooling, free-steaming for enhanced air removal, and both delayed start and media warming are particularly valued in research environments, allowing growth media to be sterilised overnight and held at optimal dispensing temperature—minimising risks of thermal degradation, caramelisation of high‑glucose formulations, or boil‑over events. This enables media to be prepared overnight and kept ready-to-pour at the start of the next morning!
For research managers and safety officers, build quality and risk reduction are key considerations. The V85-SMART features a 316L stainless-steel pressure vessel, long recognised for its corrosion resistance and suitability for demanding laboratory environments. The Quickseal single-action door incorporates both pressure and thermal interlocks, ensuring that the chamber cannot be opened until conditions are unequivocally safe.
External surfaces are treated with an antimicrobial coating to help reduce the risk of contamination transfer—an increasingly relevant concern in busy research spaces, shared facilities, and teaching environments.
